Rand Jarroch

I carried out my medical studies in Pharmacy (Bachelor degree) and Medical Laboratory specialization (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Hematology and Immunology) for five years in hospitals in Syria. I later obtained a Master's in Public Health (MPH) degree and a PhD degree in Public Health Sciences/Epidemiology in Finland. 

Currently, I work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Unit of Environmental Epidemiology, Department of Environmental Medicine (IMM) at Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm. 

My research work fell in the area of Social Epidemiology and the Social Determinants of Health. At KI, I currently work in the area of Environmental Epidemiology at the Stockholm Environmental Health Program - Good and equitable environmental health in a sustainable city. My role focuses on the effects of crowded housing on children's health in socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods of Stockholm Region.

I worked for three years as a teacher in the laboratories of the faculty of Pharmacy and faculty of Dentistry at Damascus University and The Syrian Private University in Syria. I also worked as a University Teacher at the University of Eastern Finland where I additionally participated in developing the MPH curriculum and courses content. I was a guest lecturer at the School of Medicine at Aristotle University, Greece and lecturer and organizer of Valamo Symposium on Public Health, Finland.
