Lassi Koski

I am a licensed physician at the Department of Neurology, Danderyd Hospital, where I have worked since graduating from medical school in June 2023. In October 2024, I was admitted as a PhD student at the Stroke Research Group within the Research Area of Neurology at KI DS. Concurrently, I completed my internship training (allmäntjänstgöring) at Södersjukhuset between August 2024 and June 2026.

My PhD project focuses on cardiac arrhythmias in patients with stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA) and is entitled Arrhythmias in Cerebrovascular Disease – The Heart–Brain Axis, with Louise Ziegler as principal supervisor. Three of the substudies are conducted within AF-SPICE, a national randomised multicentre trial comparing extended ECG screening for atrial fibrillation with standard screening in elderly with ischaemic stroke or TIA.

The fourth substudy is based on SALSA, a clinical cohort of patients with stroke and TIA, in which we investigate the associations between different stroke aetiologies, macrovascular disease in other vascular territories and future cardiovascular events. This substudy aims to examine the association between echocardiographic markers of atrial cardiopathy and the risk of future atrial fibrillation and ischaemic stroke.
