David Valero Calvo

I received my BSc in Chemistry from the University of Cádiz (Spain) in 2020 and completed my PhD in Chemical, Biochemical, Structural Analysis, and Computational Modelling at the University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2025. During my doctoral studies in the Nanobioanalysis Group, Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry, my research focused on the development of bioanalytical platforms for decentralized diagnostics.

As part of my PhD, I completed a research stay at the Andrew and Peggy Cherng Department of Medical Engineering at Caltech (USA), where I worked on wearable and flexible biosensors for the analysis of biomarkers in sweat, with applications in real-time health monitoring and early disease detection.

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Dermatology and Venereology Unit, Department of Medicine, Solna (MedS), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden). My research focuses on the development of wearable and minimally invasive bioelectronic technologies for early diagnostics and personalized health monitoring, with a particular emphasis on dermatological applications. My work encompasses the design and evaluation of sweat-based wearable sensors for continuous physiological monitoring, diagnostic platforms for inflammatory skin diseases, and microneedle-based systems for biomarker detection and therapeutic delivery.

In addition, I contribute to the development and application of advanced 3D in vitro systems for disease modeling and therapeutic research. By integrating bioengineering approaches with translational medicine, my research aims to advance personalized medical interventions and improve our understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of human diseases.
