Research
PhD Student at the Department of Women´s and Children´s Health (KBH), with a researchproject entitled: "Long-term functional outcome following limb-sparing surgery for bone sarcoma."
Bone sarcomas comprise a heterogeneous group of malignant tumors arising from the body´s supportive tissues and predominantly affect children and young adults. Curative treatment requires complete surgical resection of the tumor. Advances in surgical techniques have made limb-sparing surgery, with tumor resection and subsequent skeletal reconstruktion, the preferred approach in most cases, replacing amputation.
The overall aim of this research project is to evaluate long-term physical function, physical activity and patient reported outcomes following limb-sparing surgery for this type of tumors. By integrating objective measures of physical function and level och physical activity as well as patient reported outcomes, this project seeks to identify factors associated with functional recovery and long-term outcomes. With this knowledge, we can improve rehabilitation and provide better support to future patients.
